Description

This webinar will focus on the evidence from the Strategies to Prevent Ventilator-associated Pneumonia, Ventilator-associated Events, and Non-ventilator Hospital-acquired Pneumonia in Acute-care Hospitals: 2022 Update, related to the use of early tracheostomy for the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP). The most current information will be presented related to VAP rates and other important clinical outcomes. The material also covers mitigating factors for the performance of tracheotomy, including clinical status and patient preferences.  Practical information on bedside trach management will be reviewed as well.

 

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the evidence from the 2022 guidelines on the prevention of VAP supporting the recommendation for early tracheostomy.

  2. Describe potential contraindications to early tracheostomy in this patient population, including clinical status and patient values.

  3. Describe bedside management of the tracheostomy such as trach care and securement.
