Description

Obesity is a global health issue. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) reports that the prevalence of obesity among U. S. adults age 20 and over was 40.3% during August 2021-August 2023. During that same period, the prevalence of severe obesity was 9.7%. Obesity and its associated co-morbidities are significant threats to a person's health.

Since more individuals are living with obesity and its consequences to health, medical professionals are more likely to encounter bariatric patients in the acute and critical care settings. These patients have co-morbidities that require specific health care management to ensure safe, quality and dignified care. This presentation will discuss those unique health risks and care considerations to help effectively manage their care.
